Now returning for its eighth year, the formed Newport Jazz Weekend has now spread its wings and features performances across a number of stunning locations throughout the Island, becoming the Isle of Wight Jazz Weekend for this years festival, which again will be supporting the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.

This years event covers a more diverse range of events and genres from traditional jazz, right through to modern, latin and funk. There truly is something for all, featuring renowned musicians such as Ian Shaw, multi-award winning vocalist, with Iain Ballamy on saxophone and Jamie Safir on piano. The Sunshine Kings, one of London’s premier traditional jazz bands led by Brass Volcanoes’, Graham Hughes.

Zoe Francis will be performing at the festival, with the legendary Jim Mullen on guitar and Ross Stanley on organ. Pete Long’s Echoes of Ellington performing an acoustic and authentic rendition of the great Duke Ellington’s arrangements, notably from the ’65 album, Ellington at Newport.

As well as the number of fantastic famous faces, other events at the festival include a celebration of food at the Quay Arts, pop-up live performances around local towns including Newport, where you can hear sounds in the beautiful surroundings of St. Thomases’ Square. It’s not all about the talent from across the Solent either, the IW Youth Jazz Orchestra (now sold out), Gramophone Party, and Greg Foat Quartet will also be playing at venues throughout the weekend.

For the more musically inclined, it’s not all just about watching – come and get involved in one of the many courses or jam sessions happening throughout the festival. You can find the full programme of events and headline acts on their website, or follow them on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
